Jonathan Bush, cousin of former President George W. Bush is expected to enter Maine’s 2026 governor’s race next week.

The Bangor Daily News reports that the health-care entrepreneur plans a “major announcement” Wednesday at athenahealth, the company he founded and moved to Belfast in 2008.

Bush says Mainers want a leader who will shake up the status quo and keep jobs in the state. “They want a proven job creator who will make sure our kids don’t have to leave the state to achieve the American Dream,” Bush said in a statement. “I can’t wait to gather with friends next week and talk about the next step in this exciting journey.”

His entry would bring name recognition and resources to a Republican field that so far lacks a clear frontrunner. Other GOP hopefuls include lawyer Bobby Charles, state Sen. James Libby, and several business leaders.
