PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Northern Light Mercy Hospital has sold its historic State Street property in Portland as it prepares to consolidate operations at its new Fore River campus.

Private housing developers bought the State Street building but Mercy Hospital will continue leasing it until the expected completion of the Fore River campus in 2022. The hospital plans to break ground on the $83.3 million expansion this spring.

Income from the sale, along with proceeds from a $20 million fundraising campaign, will help pay for the expansion.
