Wrong way motorcyclist killed in head-on crash in Yarmouth

Police say a wrong-way driver was killed in a head-on crash on I-295 in Yarmouth on Sunday.

The crash happened at mile 16 southbound around 8:15 p.m. Sunday. Police responded to reports of a motorcycle heading north in the southbound lanes, which had struck another vehicle head-on.

The motorist was identified as 47-year-old John Rivard of Lewiston. He had entered the interstate from the exit 15 southbound off-ramp.

Rivard was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Police say the crash remains under investigation.
