BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP)  A New York City man who claimed he acted in self-defense when he killed a man in a Maine apartment that was being used as a drug den has been acquitted of all charges.

A defense attorney for Timothy Ortiz says the jury returned the not guilty verdict Monday evening in favor of Timothy Ortiz in Superior Court in Alfred.

The defense says Ortiz was choked before he shot Jonathan Methot two years ago in Biddeford. The prosecution says the shooting was over a drug debt.

Ortiz was arrested on a probation violation related to sex trafficking and drug charges in New York before being charged with murder. Defense attorney Luke Rioux says Ortiz will be released after completing his sentence for the probation violation.
