A noteworthy retired Maine college professor is dead after having a medical emergency at Acadia National Park.

The Bar Harbor Story reports Nancy Evelyn Andrews was found unresponsive in Echo Lake near Ikes Point in the park.

The 61-year-old Andrews reportedly died after experiencing a medical emergency while exiting the water.

Andrews was a professor at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, and is noted for having six of her experimental films collected by the Museum of Modern Art.

Her website says she had a prolific career creating films, drawings, installations and written stories shared internationally. She’s listed on IMDb, which says, “Nancy Evelyn Andrews makes films, drawings, props and objects. She works in hybrid forms combining storytelling, documentary, animation, puppetry, and research.”  Four of her films are included on the IMDb page.

Andrews’ death comes after national park personnel across the country were instructed this year not to confirm deaths or severe injuries on park property, as reported by the Washington Post.
