A man who barricaded himself in a house in Orrington was arrested after a lengthy standoff.

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, when a deputy who was driving on Johnson Mill Road in Orrington spotted a van off the road.

The driver was identified as 36-year-old Stephen Nason of Orrington, who had two active felony warrants for domestic assault.

Deputies say Nason locked himself inside the van and refused to come out.

CBS 13 reports that a supervisor and a family member arrived to see if they could convince Nason to get out of the van and surrender.

Deputies say he eventually exited the vehicle with a large knife pressed against his throat.

He was able to get into the family member’s vehicle and drive to their home, where he barricaded himself in a room.

After negotiations failed, members of the Maine State Police tactical team assisted in the apprehension of Nason.

He was arrested around 8:20 p.m. Sunday and taken to Northern Light medical facility with minor injuries. He was later transferred to the Penobscot County Jail.
