Owner Charged After 9 Dogs Left in Cold in Franklin County

FREEMAN TOWNSHIP, Maine (WGAN)  Police say nine dogs were found abandoned in an unheated garage Friday morning in Freeman Township.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says the nine beagles, including three puppies, were exposed to sub-zero temperatures because the garage door had been left open.  The dogs were also left without food or water for two days after the owner had moved out of the home.

Police say they have located the owner, 46-year-old David Ellis, and charged with him animal cruelty.

The dogs were taken to Franklin County Animal Shelter in Farmington.  Police say the dogs are doing well, now that they are out of the cold.
