PATTEN, Maine (WGAN)  The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office says a Patten man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a high-speed chase.

Police say on Thursday, a deputy tried to pull over a car for several traffic violations on Route 11.  The deputy says the car took off, accelerating to “criminal speeds.”

The pursuit continued through several rural towns, ending in Island Falls when the car spun out while trying to make a turn.

Police say the driver, 58-year-old Stephen Tremblay, was then arrested.  He was charged with eluding an officer, OUI, driving to endanger, operating after suspension, operating an unregistered vehicle over 150 days, criminal speed and reckless conduct.

Tremblay was taken to Penobscot County Jail.
