BANGOR, Maine (WGAN) A student at Bangor High School has been arrested after a gun was found in their belongings.

Bangor police say school officials searched the student’s property late Thursday morning because they were suspected of having marijuana. They found what’s believed to be marijuana, along with a handgun. Police say the handgun was reported stolen a few days ago. A school resource officer took the student into custody.

The student faces charges of firearm theft, burglary of a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm on school property. They were released to the custody of a parent and have had restrictions placed on them.

Police have launched an investigation.
