Police in York County recover stolen graduation signs, say thefts were a senior prank

WATERBORO, Maine (WGAN) High school graduation signs that were stolen from Massabesic High School and homes in the area have been recovered.

York County Sheriff William King said Thursday that officers identified four Massabesic seniors who took the signs as a prank.

King says the sheriff’s office is not forwarding the case for prosecution, but is instead working with school officials as part of a “restorative justice” program, aimed at diverting juvenile pranks away from the judicial system.

King says Deputy Jason Solomon’s relationship with the school’s students helped to solve the case. He also said help from those who follow the York County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook is appreciated.
