Police investigate crash that killed driver, passenger in Jay

JAY, Maine (WGAN) Police say two people and a dog were killed in a crash in Jay.

According to the Sun Journal, the fatal wreck happened Sunday around 7 p.m. on Route 4. Police Chief Richard Caton IV said a vehicle being driven by 24-year-old Hassan Abdullahi of Massachusetts had pulled into the northbound lane after passing a vehicle.

20-year-old Joshua Strout was behind the wheel of a vehicle headed southbound and collided with Abdullahi’s vehicle. Strout died at the scene. His passenger, 23-year-old Amanda Hesketh of Oxford, died after being taken to the hospital. A dog in the vehicle was also killed in the crash.

The rear passenger, 17-year-old Logan Fortin of Greene, was seriously injured and brought to Maine Medical Center in Portland by LifeFlight.

Abdullahi refused medical treatment.

Police say the crash is still under investigation.
