Police say a suspect was taken into custody following a standoff in Auburn that lasted more than 20 hours.

Auburn police said they responded to a pair of calls around 2 p.m. Monday about shots fired from a home on Gillander Avenue, one of which struck a vehicle. Gillander Avenue was closed to all traffic Monday afternoon. Effected neighbors were asked to evacuate and others were told to shelter in place. A Maine State Police Tactical Team was at the scene.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody peacefully around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputy Police Chief Tim Cougle says no one was injured. He also said the two people involved know each other, and that the shooting was not random.

Cougle said the suspect has a criminal record and is not allowed to possess firearms.
