Portland police say they’re responding to an alarming number of reports of shots fired.

The most recent report came around 1:30 Tuesday morning, when dispatchers received several calls about multiple shots fired in the area of Fox and Greenleaf streets.

Police said one of the bullets struck a home on Greenleaf Street. No injuries were reported.

Portland Police Department spokesperson David Singer says overall crime declined in the city last year, and that trend continues this year. However, he says there’s also been an alarming increase in the use and discharge of weapons.

Police say reports of shots fired date back to Halloween of 2020, when a male suspect on Auburn Street fired several rounds into the air.

The department is asking anyone who witnessed Tuesday’s incident, or has information related to any crime in the city, to call 207-874-8584 and leave a message on the department’s Crime Tip line. You can also text keyword “PPDME” plus the message to 847411 (TIP411).
