Police search for armed man accused of assaulting woman in Lewiston

LEWISTON, Maine (WGAN) Police in Lewiston are searching for an armed man accusing of assaulting a woman with a weapon on Thursday.

Police are looking for 20-year-old Deon Izayah Sands of Auburn. They say he’s wanted on assault and weapons charges.

Police say Sands is accused of threatening a woman with a handgun at an apartment building on Sylvan Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Police surrounded the building but it appeared Sands had already fled.

Sands has a criminal history and is wanted on previously issued warrants charging robbery, assault and failure to appear on a charge of domestic assault.

He’s described as being 6′ 8″ tall, 175 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and tattoos on both forearms, as well as the top of his right hand. Anyone who encounters him is asked to stay away and call police.
