Police are still trying to identify the driver who struck a 16-year-old pedestrian in Oxford County on New Year’s Eve.

CBS 13 reports it happened as the girl was crossing Cottage Street in Norway at about 5:30 p.m.

She was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

The accident remains under investigation.

It comes as public safety officials launch an effort to curb pedestrian-related accidents in Maine. Officials say some grants will help officers enforce traffic laws and educate the public about pedestrian safety in 2020.
