Portland’s Deering Oaks Park will be closed briefly while the city works to remove browntail moth nests from trees.

The city’s Parks and Recreation Department will be spraying the trees with an organic insecticide during the first part of next week. The park will be closed to guests during the treatment, which will begin before 8 a.m., and it will remain closed for four hours afterwards.

The state has been battling the invasive moths, which can cause respiratory issues when they’re caterpillars. They also pose a threat to the trees they build their nests in.

The Portland Farmer’s Market will also be moving to Payson Park starting May 19th through June 26th.
