Portland’s police chief is stepping down to take a job in the private sector.
According to the Portland Press Herald, Chief Frank Clark notified colleagues via email on Friday that he accepted a position as a “global corporate security director” but didn’t name the company that hired him.
In the email, Clark says he wasn’t actively seeking a new job but accepted the offer and says it all “came together quickly.”
City Spokeswoman Jessica Grondin said Clark will be stepping down on November 1st, and Assistant Chief Heath Gorham will serve as Acting Chief starting the following day.
Clark has spent 33 years in the public sector and was chosen to lead the department in 2019.
“I’d like to thank Chief Clark for his dedicated service to our community,” said City Manager Jon Jennings. “Chief Clark has led the police department with the utmost professionalism and his long career of public service has served Portland and South Portland extremely well.”
