Portland police are looking for a man accused of assaulting a woman who was stopped at a traffic light.

Police say the 31-year-old Westbrook woman was stopped at the light on Park Avenue at St. John Street around 7:40 a.m. A man allegedly got into her vehicle demanding a ride, then struck her in the head with a Hennessy Cognac bottle when she refused. He then pulled her keys from the ignition and fled toward Valley Street.

The woman suffered facial injuries but refused medical treatment.

Police say the suspect is a black male, tall with a thin build and a large afro. The victim said he appeared to be intoxicated.

Police remind the public that while incidents like these are rare, you should always be aware of your surroundings and keep your doors locked.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Portland Police Department.
