Public health officials report 18 new coronavirus cases in Maine

AUGUSTA, Maine – The Maine Center for Disease Control reported 18 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths on Monday.

The total number of deaths in Maine remains at 119.

The state has recorded 3,832 cases since March, when the outbreak began in Maine.

More than 80 percent of those cases have been recorded in Cumberland, York and Androscoggin counties.

Public health officials also reported 8 new recoveries Monday. All told, 3,292 Mainers have recovered from the virus.

As of Monday, there were 421 active cases in Maine, up from 411 the day before.

On the WGAN Morning News Monday, Maine CDC director Dr. Nirav Shah reported “a significant amount of hospital capacity.”

On Sunday, just 14 people across the state were in the hospital with COVID-19, 10 in intensive care.
