A judge has ruled in a dispute over beachfront property on Popham Beach.

For more than two years, the Tappen and Hill families have been engaged in a legal battle over ownership of the intertidal zone in front of their cottages.

According to the Portland Press Herald, a judge ruled Thursday that the intertidal zone is open to all subdivision owners for recreational purposes.

However, the judge did not rule on who owns some areas of the beach because neither party could prove where the boundary line is.
