Regulators slap Central Maine Power with $10 million penalty

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) The Maine Public Utilities Commission is imposing what amounts to a penalty of nearly $10 million on Central Maine Power for billing problems and customer service problems.

The panel also ruled Thursday that all customers who complain about higher-than-expected bills are entitled to a review.

Commissioners agreed with a staff conclusion that there’s no systemic problem with CMP meters leading to higher bills in late 2017 and early 2018. But there were still billing errors for tens of thousands of customers.
