Rescue efforts underway for four hikers stuck on Maine’s tallest mountain

Four hikers were stranded Friday at the top of Mt. Katahdin.

Officials at Baxter State Park said the hikers, who were part of two different hiking parties, got stuck on Knife’s Edge after dark on Thursday.

One woman in her 30s who suffered an “unstable knee injury” while the other three hikers were not injured.

Two park rangers got to the hikers Thursday night to bring food, hot liquids, and dry clothing.

The Maine Forest Service said Friday it was waiting for the clouds to break before flying the injured hiker off the mountain.

Volunteers with the Maine Association of Search and Rescue were helping with the rescue effort.
