A positive COVID-19 test has prompted the closure of the Maine state ferry terminal in Rockland.

The terminal was closed Wednesday after an employee tested positive for the virus.

According to the Maine Department of Transportation, the closure was preventative. The employee who tested positive was last in the office on March 26th, and the department did not identify any members of the public as close contacts.

The terminal is expected to reopen to passengers on Friday morning after close contacts are notified and the building is cleaned.

The department says passengers can still board the ferries and pay fares on arrival at the island terminals.
