All RSU 13 schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday following the death of a student who was hit by a school bus in Rockland.

On Friday, just before 2:30 p.m., a child was hit at the intersection of Eliza Steele Drive and Broadway.

South School and Oceanside High School will be open for a few hours on Monday and Tuesday for any students or staff who want counseling and grieving services.

The two schools will open their doors to families from 8 am to 11 am to help children, staff, and families process any emotions.

South School is located at 30 Broadway in Rockland, and any elementary students, family, and staff are invited to stop in for support and additional counseling that we will have on hand.

Oceanside High School is located at 400 Broadway in Rockland, and any middle/high school students, family, and staff are invited to stop in for support and additional counseling that we have on hand.

The Thomaston police chief says they’ll have extra officers working both days, and there’ll be an officer stationed at the schools, should any emergencies arise.

He said RSU 13’s superintendent and Rockland and Thomaston police are working together on the investigation.
