Scarborough Man Arrested Following Police Standoff


SCARBOROUGH, Maine (WGAN)  Scarborough Police say a man has been arrested on multiple charges after a domestic violence incident and a short standoff on Sunday.

Police say around 12:30 p.m. yesterday, they got a call about a possible domestic violence incident with a firearm on Manson Libby Road.

Police say a 26-year-old female was inside the residence with her boyfriend and he was threatening to shoot her in the kneecaps if police arrived.

Once officers were on scene, they say the female was able to escape.  She was taken to Maine Medical Center with minor injuries.

Police say the male suspect, 28-year-old Joshua Knowles, refused to come out of the residence.  The Southern Maine Regional SWAT team was then called in.

Around 3:15 p.m., Police say Knowles came out of the home, but was still uncooperative.  A few minutes later, he was taken into custody without incident.

Knowles was charged with elevated aggravated assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, domestic violence assault, aggravated reckless conduct and creating a police standoff.  He was taken to Cumberland County Jail.

Police say they were working on obtaining a search warrant to go inside the home on Manson Libby Road to seize Knowles’ handgun.
