Maine Sen. Cathy Breen sponsored a bill that would promote the donation of menstrual products in schools and non-profit organizations.

Sen. Breen said, “This bill simply provides protection from liability for manufacturers and providers of these products. In particular, allowing these businesses and organizations to donate to schools without fear of frivolous lawsuits will provide Maine’s female students with peace of mind and help set them up for success in the classroom.” It was reported that one in five teenagers had trouble affording feminine hygiene products.

The bill received unanimous, bipartisan support in both houses at the Maine Legislature Thursday, and it must pass another series of votes in the Legislature prior to the bill being enacted.
