Single-vehicle crash in Washington County leaves driver dead

DANFORTH, Maine (WGAN) The driver involved in a single-vehicle crash in Washington County was pronounced dead at the scene.

Maine Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss says the accident happened on Calais Rd. in Danforth on Wednesday around 7:30 p.m.

The victim was identified as 81-year-old Anthony Swett of Columbia Falls. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

Moss says he was travelling northbound when his vehicle went off the road and struck a tree.

Police said weather and inadequate tires for road conditions were factors in the crash.

The accident is under investigation.
