ORONO, Maine (AP) Officials say a small fire in the University of Maine’s library was intentionally set, and some parts of the building were closed for cleaning.

The Orono Fire Department quickly put out a fire in the ceiling above the periodical stacks using fire extinguishers Wednesday night.

Few students were in the building, which was evacuated.

About 50 books were damaged by the fire, and others were damaged by smoke, fire extinguishers and water from a sprinkler system leak.

University of Maine police and the state fire marshal’s office are conducting an investigation.
