ALTON, Maine (WGAN)  State Police say the son of a woman killed last week in Alton died over night in a crash a short distance from where his mother died.

Troopers said 32-year-old Alexander Gardner’s pickup truck slammed into a large tree at a high rate of speed on a curve on Rt. 16. The wreck was discovered around 9:30 a.m. by a passing motorist. Troopers think the crash occurred sometime during the night and are attempting to retrace Gardner’s movements.

Anyone who had contact with him or saw him or his red Chevrolet pickup during the night is asked to call Maine State Police in Bangor at (207) 973-3700.

Gardner’s mother Robin Gardner, 63, was killed last Friday, about a mile away, when her car was struck head-on by another vehicle. The driver of the second car was charged with manslaughter.
