The city of South Portland says Willard Beach will remain closed through at least Wednesday.

The announcement Tuesday came after water quality testing pointed to two locations that were above the threshold for bacteria levels considered safe.

The beach has been closed since Thursday after the city’s water treatment facility suffered a break.

The pipe has since been repaired. Officials say the water at the beach is expected to return to acceptable testing levels naturally.
