Standoff at Peru home ends with death of suspect

A man accused of causing a standoff with police in the town of Peru was found dead.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office says police were called to a home Thursday afternoon to arrest a 46-year-old Peru man wanted in connection with a sexual assault investigation.

Deputies say he refused to surrender and threatened to harm himself and burn down the home.

The man was found dead when deputies entered the home.

The suspect’s name and cause of death have not been released.
