The Maine Department of Labor is reporting a sharp decline in unemployment claims after a three-week surge.

The department says 13,400 initial unemployment claims were filed, down from the 30,900 first-time claims that were filed the week before.

Continued claims last week totaled 55,700, a new record-high and up from 41,300 claims the previous week.

In addition to state unemployment benefits, claimants next week will receive an additional $600 via the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation Program.
