A house fire in Gorham on Friday sent the homeowner to the hospital.

Firefighters responded to the home Friday afternoon on New Portland Road, which was shut down to traffic temporarily.

Gorham Fire Chief Ken Fickett told our info partners at CBS 13 news strong winds made battling the blaze difficult.

Fickett says the homeowner, who suffered burns to his face and smoke inhalation, was cooking on the back deck when the wind blew flames on to the house.
