TOPSHAM, Maine (WGAN) Topsham Police say students on board a bus were able to bring the vehicle to a stop after the driver suffered a medical event on Monday morning.

Police say the MSAD 75 school bus came to a stop around 7:30 a.m. on Route 201, after two students steered the bus to the side of the road and hit the brakes.

After the bus stopped, a third student attempted first aid while another called 911. Other students got out to wave traffic through.

14 middle and high school students were on board at the time.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and the 77-year-old driver was brought to Maine Medical Center, where his status was unknown on Monday afternoon.
