PORTLAND-FALMOUTH, Maine (WGAN) State Police say a tanker truck wreck on I-295 caused delays and closed off southbound traffic in the area Friday morning into the afternoon.

State Police say the driver of the truck, Herbert Staples of Belfast, was brought to the hospital but was not seriously injured. The truck he was driving went off the road on the highway near the Portland and Falmouth line, crashing through guardrails and ending up on it’s side. It happened late Friday morning.

Southbound traffic was being diverted on the Falmouth spur of the Maine Turnpike and to other roads in Falmouth. Northbound traffic remained unaffected.

Police say a mixture of diesel fuel and milk spilled at the crash site and both were being pumped out of the truck before the wreck is removed. The tanker was fully loaded with milk at the time of the crash.

No word yet on the cause of the crash.
