Police in Bangor are investigating after racial slurs were spray-painted on a local man’s vehicle.

Officers responded to Bolling Drive around 10:30 p.m. Friday to find the man’s vehicle spray-painted with slurs, offensive words and lettering.

Police checked the neighborhood and detained two 15-year-old girls. They were issued summonses and released back into the custody of their parents.

Sgt. Wade Betters says the case is still under investigation, as the juveniles may have violated the Maine Civil Rights Act. The case will be turned over to the Maine Attorney General’s Office to be reviewed once that investigation is complete.
