The homeless Portland resident, who died from a presumed overdose on Monday is identified as Stanley Holmes.

It has not been made official that this man’s death was the cause of an overdose. However, fellow homeless people who are living in the area say that an overdose was the cause.

A friend of Holmes, Bruce Cavallaro, who lives in an encampment told Portland Press Herald that Holmes was “mentally troubled and a bit of a loner, but also a generous friend.”

Homes was living in the encampment near the Bayside trail, but when the city cleared the encampments, he moved with other homeless people to the Marginal Way.

Since he had no tent of his own, he started to sleep under an oak tree close to the road and away from the encampment on Saturday, where his dead body was found early Monday morning. Investigations are still ongoing, as the death has not yet been determined.
