Maine Turnpike rollover sends two people to the hospital

Two people were hospitalized after a rollover crash Friday morning on the Maine Turnpike.

Police say the crash happened near mile 66 northbound in Gray a little before 7:30 a.m. A 17-year-old from Minneapolis was driving with a learner’s permit and didn’t see another vehicle in the travel lane while trying to switch lanes, causing her to overcorrect.

The vehicle rolled over multiple times, landing on the driver after she was ejected. She was taken by Life Flight to the hospital in critical condition.

The passenger was initially also referred to as a minor, but police later clarified that person was identified as 23-year-old Johoro Ibrahim of Lewiston. She also had only a permit. Ibrahim was being treated for a head injury.
