BUCKSPORT, Maine (WAGN) The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency has charged two people with operating a meth lab in Bucksport.
MDEA Agents searched an apartment on Noel Way Thursday evening. They say they walked in on the occupants actively making meth using the “one-pot” method.
After that discovery, the two other apartments in the building were evacuated and additional MDEA lab team resources were called in to process the scene and gather evidence. Agents seized processed methamphetamine, “one pot” vessels used to manufacture meth and ingredients used to make the drug.
45-year-old Jamie Matlack and his aunt, 53-year-old Kimberly Matalack, were arrested for for operation of a methamphetamine laboratory. Jamie was also charged with unlawful possession.
Agents say the charges are aggravated because the apartment is within 1,000 feet of the Reach School.
Both were taken to Hancock County Jail.
This is the 42nd response by the MDEA’s lab team this year. In 2017, there were 58 incidents and a record-high 126 in 2016.
