Two Mainers – Sam Morse of Carrabassett Valley and Nathan Pare of Bethel have been officially named to the U.S. Olympic team.

Morse will compete in the men’s downhill category of Alpine skiing, which is a high-speed competition on a steep course.

Pare will compete in the snowboard cross, in which several snowboarders compete on a course to the finish line.

Pare is 20 years old. He was named the 2024 FIS World Cup Snowboard Cross Rookie of the Year and broke through on the World Cup circuit with a third-place finish at Mt. St. Anne.

Morse is 29 years old. He started skiing at the Sugarloaf resort at an early age and attended Carrabassett Valley Academy. He’s been working his way up the downhill skiing circuit for years, landing his best World Cup result in Val Gardena with a 10th place in the 2023-24 season. This will be his first Olympics.

The Olympics will kick off on February 6th in Milan, Italy.
