UMaine, Audubon to teach growing native plants for wildlife


FALMOUTH, Maine (AP) The University of Maine and Maine Audubon are working together to help residents of the state use native plants to benefit wildlife.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension said it will use a four-part series of online classes to help residents learn about backyard ecology.

The classes will start May 6. The courses will focus on selecting and growing native plants to benefit Maine birds.

UMaine Extension horticulture professional Pamela Hargest and Maine Audubon education director Eric Topper are on board to lead the classes.

The university is asking residents to register online.
