WALES, Maine (WGAN) Maine State Police have released the identity of a man killed by a trooper in Wales on Monday morning.

Spokesman Steve McCausland says 54-year-old William Derick, who lived in a mobile home on Route 132, was shot and killed in an armed confrontation. He was shot by James MacDonald, a member of the State Police Tactical Team. MacDonald was placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard for all police-involved shootings.

Part of Route 132 was closed to traffic early Monday as police dealt with the incident.

The Attorney General’s Office is investigating the shooting. Derick’s body was brought to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
