Police have arrested a man accused of crashing into and killing two people in Waterboro.

York County Sheriff William King says 64-year-old Charles Stoddard was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of manslaughter.

The crash on Sokokis Trail in Waterboro on July 31st led to the deaths of 45-year-old Mark Schepis and 12-year-old Luke Stephenson, both of Waterboro.

Police say Stoddard struck the two while they were sitting outside and waiting to be seated at the Cozi Corner Cafe. The two were pronounced dead at the scene.

King says Stoddard then continued driving and hit a pickup truck that was leaving the parking lot.

Stoddard is being held at York County Jail on $50,000 cash bail. Sheriff King says additional charges are expected, including drug possession.
