WATERVILLE, Maine (WGAN) A Waterville woman is charged with arson in connection with a series of fires at a construction site on the Colby College campus.

Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss says firefighters responded to six fires on Monday evening at the construction site of the college’s Paul J. Schupf Arts Center.

Investigators with the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office learned that 21-year-old Alisa Carey had been found in the area with burns to her hand. Their investigation found that Carey was responsible for setting the fires, which caused damage to construction materials, dumpsters, and the building.

Carey was treated at the hospital, where police say she assaulted a fire investigator and a police officer. She was then brought to Kennebec County Jail and charged with arson and two counts of assault on a police officer. She’s also on probation from a previous arson charge.
