A 78-year-old man is dead after being found floating face down in the water north of Windham on Tuesday afternoon.

The Maine Warden Service found Allan Ryder of Windham when called to the scene at Little Sebago Lake in the area of the Outlet Cove Road at about 4:15 pm.

They say an initial investigation shows Ryder was refueling his boat that was tied to the dock when vapors ignited, and Ryder either jumped or fell into the water.

Windham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on scene and provided medical attention, but Mr. Ryder was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wardens say the incident remains under investigation and more information will be released when it becomes available.

The Maine Warden Service is assisting the Windham Police Department, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office with the investigation
