A woman died in Windham over the weekend after she was struck by a pickup truck. Police say the crash happened Sunday morning on Swett Road near Route 202.The woman was seriously injured after the incident; she died from injuries on Tuesday.
Windham police say there have been no charges filed against the driver and there are no further details about the victim.
The Windham community is concerned after multiple recent crashes in the city; Windham residents have also raised concerns about people speeding and reckless driving.
Phyllis and Craig Anderson live on Swett Road, where the woman was struck Sunday. “The speeds in town seem to have been increasing, and we’re not seeing a lot of action,” Craig Anderson said.
According to Windham Police Chief Kevin Schofield, the police department applied for federal grants to pay officers for extra patrols in problem areas. “To enforce speeding, distracted driving, things like that,” Schofield said. “This month, we will be putting out extra patrols on overtime.”

The Police department said changes such as more stop signs and installing more traffic lights might take years to implement because they must go through the Maine Department of Transportation.
