YORK, Maine (Bangor Daily News) According to documents from Maine’s Department of Health and Human services, York Hospital was sanctioned for allowing two doctors who were not licensed to practice medicine in Maine to participate in surgeries.

According to the Bangor Daily News, both instances were a violation of federal rules, and put the hospital in danger of no longer being able to bill Medicare if it did not outline a plan to correct the issues.

The documents show state inspectors found that a vascular surgeon who was not licensed to practice medicine in Maine operated on a patient in March of 2019.

The second instance, which occurred in August, involved a woman giving birth via c-section, who requested that her father, who was a doctor but not licensed to practice in Maine, assisted in delivering the baby.

The hospital filed a corrective plan in November.
