Maine Points: Trauma Intervention Program (TIP)

TIP Portland was established in 2004 when over 30 leaders of greater Portland’s first responder agencies, area community mental health centers and hospitals gathered to discuss what Portland was missing in regards to trauma informed treatment. It was discerned that having a caring presence on the scene of a traumatic event to care for the survivors and their families was absent; therefore the emotional needs of citizens in crisis were not being met. Research done by former Community Counseling Center along with members of the Junior League of Portland resulted in bringing a TIP
chapter to Maine, TIP founder Wayne Fortin taught the first TIP training class.

TIP has been servicing the greater Portland community since 2005 and is in its 15th year of service! TIP Portland provides 24 / 7 and 365 days a year service to the following first responder police and fire agencies; Portland, South Portland, Westbrook, Scarborough, Gorham, Windham, Cumberland, Falmouth, Cape Elizabeth. TIP also provides assistance to Maine Medical Center’s Emergency and Special Care Units.

Danny speaks with Leslie Skillin and the purpose of this program is to show how TIP Portland is making a difference in our community.
