The death of a man who collapsed in the water on Sebago Lake in Standish is under investigation.

Cpt. Donald Foss with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Harrison Gauld was swimming in about 4 feet of water around 4 p.m. Monday at Rich Memorial Beach. It appeared he may have suffered a medical event and became submerged under water.

He was pulled on to the beach after not resurfacing. Multiple attempts by bystanders and first responders to revive him failed.

The medical examiner and the Criminal Investigation Division of the sheriff’s office are investigating the death.
