A 12-year-old Topsham boy is in the Massachusetts General Hospital with severe burns from a fire in a fire pit.
Firefighters say a preliminary investigation indicates two boys were using gasoline to accelerate the fire’s ignition when fuel was spilled onto the 12-year-old and triggered a flash fire.
Topsham Police say they found the boy on a front porch at a residence on Coot Lane suffering from extensive burns.
They say the boy was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland and was later transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
A second juvenile who was present at the time of the incident was transported by a parent to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. That boy was treated and released.
